Phnom Penh, 5 September 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of Thailand, Panyarak Poolthup ended his diplomatic mission to Cambodia in September. Ambassador Panyarak was appointed an envoy to the country more than four years ago and officially started his work in the embassy in February 2018.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen held a meeting with the Thai ambassador. The two met at the Peace Palace on the morning of 5th September.
During their meeting, the two sides highlighted Cambodia’s relations with Thailand. Moreover, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the strengthened relations between both states despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Highlights from the meeting
During the meeting, Ambassador Panyarak thanked Cambodia for providing vaccines to the team at the Thai Embassy as well as the Thai nationals in the country. He also congratulated the Royal Government for successfully preventing the spread of Covid-19.
Correspondingly, the Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador’s efforts in leading to better relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand.
Prime Minister Hun Sen also highlighted that despite the circumstances of Covid 19, the two countries successfully promoted cooperation in trade, education, and other fields.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed opportunities and challenges faced by Cambodia during its ASEAN chairmanship in 2022. Additionally, they discussed issues of regional and international dynamics.
Thailand-Cambodia relations
Cambodia and Thailand have enjoyed years of good bilateral relations. These relations have further strengthened during the pandemic.
Trade exchange between the two countries rose by 10 percent during the time period. Thailand is also among the top ten countries that invest the most in Cambodia.

Additionally, during the pandemic, The Thai Government joined hands with the Cambodian Government in their efforts to combat COVID-19. Thailand also allowed medical patients from Cambodia to seek treatment in Thailand at a time when borders were closed to contain the spread of the pandemic.
Correspondingly, the Cambodian government also gave amnesty to Thai citizens who could not leave Cambodia due to travel restrictions. The Cambodian government also provided assistance to Thai nationals who wished to return to Thailand, as well as facilitated Thai businessmen’s entry into the country in line with effective health precautions.
Moreover, 2022 commemorates 72 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries. Thailand and Cambodia have also collaborated on a number of issues and have signed numerous bilateral agreements over the years.
Recently, both countries have also signed an agreement on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for law enforcement cooperation against human trafficking.
