Cabinet Division Warns of Targeted APT Cyber-Attack on Government Officers

Islamabad August 5, 2024 (TDI): The Federal Government has issued an advisory warning of a Targeted Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) against government officers.

According to the advisory issued by Cabinet Division, a targeted APT attack is being conducted through various WhatsApp numbers and phishing emails aimed at government officials.

According to the advisory, the attacker uses multiple mobile numbers and emails with fake domains to send deceptive messages, attempting to launch a cyber-attack via malware. The attacker sends Remote Access Tools (RAT) files in RAR format to gain access to devices.

Included in the advisory is a list of WhatsApp numbers identified as being used for these cyber-attacks. The numbers are 923176723167, 03357837013, 03557877912, 03552217450, 0355787912, 03553825375, 03557946757, 03115700308, and 03552666591.

The Cabinet Division has instructed all departments to warn their officers and staff not to download any files from the listed WhatsApp numbers or any unknown numbers or emails to safeguard their data.

Furthermore, the Cabinet Division has directed ministries to disseminate this information to all relevant departments.
