Islamabad/Birmingham, 4 August 2022 (TDI):  The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Christian Turner congratulated Pakistani athlete Nooh Dastgir Butt on achieving the first Gold Medal for Pakistan with a record lift of 405kg, at the Commonwealth games 2022.

This is the first gold medal for Pakistan in any category in the ongoing Common Wealth games in the United Kingdom.

Earlier Hussain Shah won a bronze medal which is the first medal in the games. However, Butt provided a highlight for Pakistan by winning the first gold medal.

Moreover, New Zealand’s David Andrew got silver by lifting 394kg whereas India’s Singh Gurdeep managed to win bronze by lifting 390kg.

Other Achievements of Pakistani Athletes

Besides, Nooh Dastgir Butt has set a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 173kg in snatch in the 109+kg category. Butt also set another record by lifting 232kg in clean and jerk. Overall, he lifted 405kg which is another CWG record.

Earlier, in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he had got a bronze medal in the 105+kg category. He also won silver for Pakistan last year in December.

In 2006, Shujauddin Malik won the only gold for Pakistan in the 85kg category in CWG’s weightlifting event.

Additionally, after winning the medal, Nooh Dastgir dedicated his achievement to his father. He said that he had been trying to win this game for the last seven years.

He further added that his father worked for 12 years and helped him reach at this stage. Moreover, he also thanked his fans and family for their support.

Congratulatory Messages from Pakistan

Apart from this, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif also congratulated the Pakistani athlete who provided this proud moment for Pakistan. He tweeted “Well done, Butt Saab”.

Moreover, the Pakistan Cricket Board, in a tweet, shared Nooh Dastgir’s photographs and called him a champion. Also, wished him more success in the future.

The achievement is indeed a proud moment for the entire Pakistani nation.
