Baku-Islamabad, 26th August 2021 (TDI): Today is the birthday of the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan the first lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyev. She is the Good Will Ambassador of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO, formerly ISESCO) and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The first lady of Azerbaijan is the most reliable support of President Ilham Aliyev and has gained the love and sympathy of millions of people from across the globe for her outstanding generosity and humanitarian assistance.
In 2015, the first lady of Azerbaijan was conferred with the “Hilal e Pakistan” award of Pakistan. This was the first time that the first lady of a foreign country was awarded this highest order from Pakistan. This was an acknowledgment of the services of the First Lady of Azerbaijan for the people of Pakistan.
With strong human values and respect for cultures, love for poetry, arts, and music, the First lady has remained engaged in philanthropic work since 1995 through her foundation “Friends of Azerbaijan Culture”
In 2005 during the historic earthquake in Pakistan, Heyder Aliyev Foundation begin its support under the kind patronage of the First lady. Soon after the earthquake, relief and rehabilitation work was supported at the ground including constructing schools for girls in Muzaffarabad. The school is named after the First lady in 2012 and is smoothly running with the support of the foundation.
Apart from this, the First lady of Azerbaijan initiated healthcare, education development, and humanitarian projects in all provinces of Pakistan. There was hepatitis B vaccination, checkups, and treatment were also carried out at the Edhi Home, Akbar Care Institute for Cerebal Palsy in Peshawar, and Women’s and Children Hospital in Lakki Marwat. Foundation has also donated Ambulance and thousand of blood donations to the Hamza Foundation dealing with the safe transfusion of blood.
Similar activities were completed in the northwest province of Pakistan alongside Afghanistan. Financial assistance was provided for the establishment of the Thalassemia Centre in Islamabad. During the month of Holy Ramadan, the foundation has hosted Iftar for the beneficiaries of the Sweet Homes and other orphanages in all four provinces of Pakistan. Along with this on Eid Ul Azha, Foundation distributed the meat among hundreds of animals of the people of KPK, Punjab, and Balochistan.
In 2014 the Foundation inaugurated the Heydar Aliyev Water Supply Scheme of Tank district of DIK, KPK. As a result, thousands of inhabitants of that area got access to pure drinking water. Obviously, the activity of Azerbaijan’s first lady in Pakistan serves to further strengthen and deepen brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
It is remarkable that due to her activity in Pakistan, besides the Hilal-e-Pakistan order, Mehriban Aliyeva was awarded the title of “Symbol of Humanity, “Woman of 2012” by “Women Volunteers Organization” and “Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Excellence Award” in 2013.
