Lima, Peru (TDI): Taiwan’s APEC Envoy invites Joe Biden, met at an Asia Pacific summit with US President Joe Biden on Friday and asked him to visit Taiwan next.
The invitation was given by Lin Hsin-i, during a cordial exchange outside the Lima, Peru, Asia-Pacific-Economic-conference.
Lin, a former economy minister and Chairman of Government-backed investment fund Taiwan Capital.
However, he had expressed gratitude to President Biden for his constant assistance in enhancing US-Taiwan ties during the earlier four years.
Taiwan’s delegation described the discussion as “lively” and emphasized shared commitments to regional peace and prosperity.

The Discussion had attended by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also, who emphasized the collaborative atmosphere of the summit.
The APEC Forum is one of the international forums in which Taiwan and China participate, albeit Taiwan does not send its president due to China’s concerns.

Despite Beijing’s never-ending opposition to state-to-state relations with the island, the meeting shows Taiwan’s active involvement in establishing international ties.

Through APEC, Taiwan has consistently enhanced its communication with foreign leaders.
Lin met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier this year to talk about ways to enhance Taiwan-US cooperation.

Discussions focused on maintaining regional stability and fostering Indo-Pacific economic expansion.
The USA continues to be Taiwan’s most important defense partner and worldwide friend. Even though, formal diplomatic relations have not existed since 1979.
Taiwan’s administration reiterate that the destiny of the island rests entirely with its citizens, while also rejecting Beijing’s claims to sovereignty.
This invitation to President Biden is an important step in Taiwan’s diplomatic outreach.
