Islamabad: 30th June 2021 (TDI) In Pakistan the World Bank supported Benazir Income Support Program which enabled cash transfers to over 5.8 million women heads of households, this program benefitted 30 million family members.
This platform became a basis of support, with Bank assistance, for the poorest families during the Covid-19 pandemic and national lockdowns. BISP is now a well-established social safety net program. The project paves way for multiple avenues to deal with poverty at the household and institutional levels. At the household level, there is a significant increase in the poor families’ income. At the institutional level, there has been the implementation of safety nets.
