Bangladesh and Belarus conduct foreign office consultations

Dhaka, 11 March 2024 (TDI): The 5th Round of Foreign Office Consultations between Bangladesh and Belarus was held in Dhaka. All important aspects of bilateral relations were discussed during the consultations.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Evgeny Shestakov led their respective delegations.

Bilateral relations spotlighted

Both sides highlighted the significance of political, trade, and economic cooperation. Moreover, they also discussed the prospects of expanding the legal framework of bilateral relations and the exchange of business visits.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary thanked the Belarusian people, as part of the then Soviet Union, for their support during Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971.

Both parties expressed satisfaction with the existing state of bilateral relations between the two countries. They also expressed hope in further strengthening the bilateral ties in the coming time.

Agreements and plans

The Belarusian delegation showed keen interest in importing manpower from Bangladesh. Additionally, they spotlighted providing more opportunities for Bangladeshi students to pursue higher education in Belarus.

On the other hand, Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen urged Belarusian businessmen and entrepreneurs to invest in the Special Economic Zones and High-tech Parks in Bangladesh.

Representatives of both countries reached several agreements regarding enhanced cooperation between Minsk and Dhaka during the 5th Round of Foreign Office Consultations between Bangladesh and Belarus.

In this regard, they discussed planning a “second meeting of the Belarusian-Bangladeshi Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as mutual visits at various levels”.

In essence, the delegations considered multiple aspects of Belarusian-Bangladeshi relations which include but are not limited to cooperation in science and technology, education, culture, and tourism.

They spotlighted the significance of cooperation between the two countries in international organizations. Lastly, they also touched upon key issues on regional and global agendas.
