Manama, 18 July 2022 (TDI): In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain strongly condemned the terrorist bombing in the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The terrorist bombing targeted a hotel near the Presidential palace of Hirshabelle State, in the center of Jowhar city, in Somalia. The targeted terrorist bombing killed several people while wounding others, including government officials.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain expressed sincere condolence to the families of the victims, the government officials, and the brotherly people of Somalia. While strongly condemning the attack, the Ministry wished speedy recovery to all those injured.

In addition to this, the Ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s firm support and solidarity for the people in Somalia.

The Kingdom also affirmed its efforts to maintain security and stability and combat extremism and terrorism. Furthermore, the Kingdom also called upon the international community for support in eliminating extremist terrorist organizations.

Targeted terrorist bombing

The bombing occurred outside a popular hotel, Nur-doob, in Central Somalia. The hotel was frequently visited by lawmakers, ministers, and government officials. A car packed with explosives blasted outside the Nur-doob hotel. As a result, several were injured.

The explosion destroyed the hotel building and the adjacent buildings in Jowhar, about 90 kilometers north of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.

An eyewitness stated that the explosion was one of the largest they had heard lately in the Horn of Africa country that had suffered major attacks in recent years.

A Somalian police officer in Jowhar told that the suicide car bomb attack that targeted the famous hotel killed at least 3 people and wounded 14, including the Health Minister of Hirshabelle State.

The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group.
