Baku, 18 January 2022 (TDI): Yesterday, on 17 January, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov was called on by the President of the Parliament of Montenegro Aleksa Becic and his delegation. The two parties discussed avenues of bilateral cooperation between both countries.
PROSPECTS FOR BILATERAL COOPERATION
Minister Bayramov warmly welcomed the delegation, and conveyed the Azerbaijani Government’s commitment to furthering relations with Montenegro. He commented on the continuing high-level political exchanges between both nations, and expressed satisfaction. Furthermore, Bayramov also noted that strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Montenegro was intensifying, signalling growing ties.
The Azerbaijani Minister also remarked that this exchange with the Montenegro delegation would play an additional role in bettering diplomatic relations.
President Aleksa Becic expressed his gratitude to Bayramov for hosting their visit and welcoming the delegates with such warm hospitality. He has also acknowledged the fruitful discussions held earlier with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Prime Minister, and the Speaker of the Milli Majlis. Becic further extended thanks to Azerbaijan for offering humanitarian aid to Montenegro in combatting the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition, the two sides talked about the prospects of collaboration between Azerbaijan and Montenegro. With regards to this, they touched on specific sectors such as economy, investment, energy, tourism, humanitarian, and transport. They agreed that consultations in the sphere of politics, including consular matters, should be reinforced.
Moreover, both parties also highlighted the significance of the joint inter-governmental commission in increasing economic and trade ties.
REGIONAL CONFLICTS
Further along with the discussion, Foreign Minister Bayramov briefed the delegates on the ongoing regional conflicts. Particularly, he informed about the aftermath of the 44-day war which took place. He further mentioned the reconstruction attempts which were being carried out in the liberated territories, and the timely initiatives being taken by the Azerbaijani Government to safely return larger numbers of IDPs.
Becic expressed his appreciation to Azerbaijan for its effective handling of this sensitive situation. He remarked that Montenegro gave its full support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. As firm believers of peace and negotiations, Montenegro extended well-wishes to Azerbaijan on its peace-building activities.
Towards the end of the conversation, President Becic formally invited Minister Bayramov to visit his country. The Minister took this invitation with great pleasure and reiterated that Azerbaijan was dedicated to developing bilateral relations with its friend Montenegro.
