Baku, 20 June 2023 (TDI): Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov participated in Caspian Connectivity Conference in London, organized by the Caspian Policy Center.

In addition to his attendance, the Foreign Minister delivered a speech about the essential opportunities created by the Caspian region, which has a notable geographical location.

Jeyhun Bayramov referenced the significant increase in transit by 75% through Azerbaijan in 2022. Hence, reflecting that the opening of communications will foster lasting peace and stability in the region, and significantly increase trade and transport.

In this perspective, Foreign Minister Bayramov spoke about the importance of the Zangezur Corridor. He noted that the Zangezur Corridor, as an initiative, can increase connectivity within the Middle Corridor.

In terms of the role of Azerbaijan regarding the Caspian Sea route, the Foreign Minister asserts that the country has promoted a number of infrastructure projects to strengthen trade and logistics between Europe and Asia.

For example, Azerbaijan was an initiator and strong partner in the implementation of other regional projects, such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and Trans-Caucasus fiber-optic cable projects, said the minister.

In addition, the Azerbaijan Digital Hub project, a digital corridor that also aims at creating a new connection route, is part of the country’s contribution to enhancing connectivity in the region.

Meanwhile, Bayramov noted the wind energy potential in the Caspian Sea in creating an avenue for exporting electricity to Europe.

The Trans-Caspian Corridor has been an increasingly essential route for transportation and cross-border trade. The corridor has also been viewed as an opportunity to drive sustainable development in the Caspian region.

As an international transport corridor that runs through China, the Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye and European countries, it requires ultimate developmental attention.

Foreign Minister Bayramov also emphasized the salient roles of Azerbaijan in paying special attention to the diversification and modernization of its transport infrastructure in the Caspian region.
