Islamabad (TDI): Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, called on Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, an invited to the upcoming World Urban Forum.
Thirteenth session of the Forum, scheduled to be held in Baku from May 17-22, is expected to serve as a major platform to deliberate on the growing climate–urban nexus, resilience-building strategies, and sustainable pathways for environmentally responsible urban development.
The World Urban Forum, convened under the auspices of UN-Habitat, brings together policymakers, urban planners, climate experts, and development stakeholders from around the world to address the challenges of rapid urbanization and climate vulnerability.
Dr. Malik welcomed the invitation and underscored the importance of continued collaboration between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, particularly in advancing shared environmental and urban sustainability goals.
This year’s session in Baku is anticipated to place strong emphasis on integrating climate resilience into urban planning and infrastructure development; an area of critical importance for countries like Pakistan that face mounting climate risks.

During the meeting, Ambassador Farhadov lauded Dr. Malik’s strong and principled intervention at the recent Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) meeting on climate change.
He particularly appreciated the minister’s emphasis on collective global responsibility and his candid remarks highlighting inconsistencies in international climate commitments.
The ambassador acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive and vocal advocacy for equitable climate action, especially in championing the concerns of developing nations disproportionately affected by climate change.
Pakistan has consistently pushed for climate justice in global forums, urging developed countries to fulfill their financial and technological commitments to vulnerable states.
Dr. Malik’s position at the ECO meeting reinforced Pakistan’s broader diplomatic efforts to ensure fairness and accountability in international climate frameworks.
Beyond climate diplomacy, both sides reaffirmed the deep-rooted brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, underscoring longstanding cultural, historical, and strategic ties.
The two countries have maintained close cooperation across various sectors, with mutual support on regional and international issues forming a cornerstone of their partnership.
