Islamabad (TDI): Embassy of Azerbaijan in Pakistan hosted a reception, marking Azerbaijan’s upcoming Independence Day. Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik attended the event as the chief guest.
The reception was attended by Governors of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kamran Tessori and Faisal Karim Kundi, former Climate Change Minister Senator Sherry Rehman and other prominent figures.
Foreign ambassadors and diplomats, Pakistani government officials, members of business community, civil society, media personalities also participated in the ceremony.
Addressing the event, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov stressed the importance of May 28 that is marked as the Independence Day of Azerbaijan every year in the country and across the world.
He said that Azerbaijan was the first democratic secular republic in the Muslim East and was founded on May 28, 1918.
Ambassador Farhadov appreciated the role of Pakistan after the restoration of Azerbaijan’s Independence and said that Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan in December 1991.
He said that both nations are bound by the bonds of strong friendship, brotherhood and strategic ties.
“From the first day of our independence, we feel Pakistan’s full backing to our country both in bilateral format and within the framework of global organizations as well as during the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia and their liberation by Azerbaijan, and in the post-conflict period.”

In 2020, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan liberated its globally recognized territories from the almost 30-year long occupation by Armenia, implementing UNSC 4 resolutions of 1993, he added.

To prevent further large-scale provocations by Armenian troops in the Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan and to restore the constitutional order, the Azerbaijani military conducted an anti-terror operation on September 19, 2023 which lasted just twenty-three hours, forced the enemy to surrender, the envoy said.
He further said that this victory fully restored Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, and today, the Azerbaijani flag flies proudly in all territories where Azerbaijani sovereignty is established and Azerbaijan has officially declared 2025 as the Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.
