Baku, 3 October 2022 (TDI): The republic of Azerbaijan congratulated the Republic of Korea on the occasion of the National Day of Korea. Azerbaijan extended warm wishes and sincere congratulations to the government and the people of Korea.
Korea celebrates National Foundation Day on the 3rd of October annually, and it is a state national holiday.
Korean National Foundation Day
The purpose of the National foundation day of Korea is to remember the Foundation of the state. The event was initially celebrated on the third day of the tenth lunar month. Therefore, it fell on a different day every year.
The country’s government declared this holiday a yearly national holiday in 1949. Therefore, National Foundation Day is currently observed on October 3rd each year.
It is also known as the “Festival of the Opening of Heaven”, “Tangun Day” or “Gaecheon-gol”. Foundation Day commemorates the traditional founding of Korea by Tangun in 2333 B.C
Like many holidays worldwide, National Foundation Day is celebrated with huge fireworks displays throughout the country. It takes place in Yeouido Han River Park and is very popular in Seoul. Every year, large crowds of people gather in the park or on the opposite river banks to watch the fireworks.
The holiday is also celebrated with ceremonies on the summit of Mount Manisan on Kanghwa Island. It is about 25 miles west of Seoul. This is where tradition says that Tangun offered sacrifices to heaven.

Azerbaijan and South Korea’s bilateral relations
On March 23, 1992, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic ties. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea was established in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2006. One year later, in 2007, the Republic of Azerbaijan opened an embassy in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The opening of the embassies has further bolstered the ties between both countries.
The presidents of the two nations met during reciprocal visits in 2006 and 2007. The meetings created new chances for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Korea. It also strengthened economic and trade ties while promoting investment activities.
