Jakarta, 19 June 2023 (TDI): Ambassador Jayant N Khobragade, the esteemed Ambassador of India to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), held a productive and cordial courtesy call with Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta today.
The meeting aimed to explore avenues for further strengthening the flourishing ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During the meeting, Ambassador Khobragade and Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn engaged in fruitful discussions on advancing ASEAN-India cooperation across various sectors. Both sides expressed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and explored ways to enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Khobragade highlighted the significant progress achieved under the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and emphasized India’s steadfast dedication to strengthening its relationship with ASEAN member countries. He underscored the shared values, historical and cultural connections, and shared aspirations between India and ASEAN.
Both sides acknowledged the potential for increased collaboration in various sectors, including trade and investment, connectivity, maritime cooperation, tourism, science and technology, and capacity building.
They also discussed the importance of people-to-people exchanges and cultural interactions to foster greater understanding and friendship between the peoples of ASEAN and India.
ASEAN and India share a cooperative relationship aimed at enhancing political, economic, and cultural ties. The cooperation spans various sectors such as trade, investment, connectivity, education, and tourism.
Both ASEAN and India have committed to promoting regional integration, fostering economic growth, and ensuring peace and stability in the region. They have established mechanisms like the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement and the ASEAN-India Summit to strengthen collaboration.
