Manhattan, 30 August 2021 (TDI): On the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances, António Guterres the Secretary-General of the UN remarked his opinion.
The Official in his statement anticipated the severity of enforced disappearances including arrest, imprisonment, and abduction. The Secretary-General remarked that the disappearances were used as a tool and a tactic to terrorize society. It is a ploy that spreads insecurity on the societal level.
Additionally, António Guterres added that in the presence of internal conflicts enforced disappearances transpire as a system of tyranny.
He regarded it as more than just a violation of human rights.
The Secretary-General on the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances requested the governments to make efforts to curb this grave issue. The official asked the governments that they should properly investigate the cases.
They should search for the victims and punish those who are responsible, added António Guterres.
