António Guterres’ remarks about the water security

-

New York, 28 August 2021 (TDI): In the wake of World Water Week, António Guterres; Secretary-General for the United Nations expressed his concerns about water security in his tweet. He mentioned the impact of climate change and environmental crises on the issue of water supply.
Furthermore, Guterres mentioned that nearly 450 million children around the world did not have access to fresh usable water. Guterres asserted that climate change is increasingly unsettling the natural weather arrangements and affecting the water supply. Millions of children are at risk as they do not have enough water supplies to fulfill their daily needs. Relating his tweet to the UNICEF research on water insecurity, Guterres highlighted how, owing to water shortage, children aging from 1-5 die every day from contaminated water and hygiene-borne diseases like Diarrhea. Besides, Guterres showed his concern that the number of such death tolls is as high as 700 per day.
On the occasion of World Water Week, the UN Secretary-General commended the world that access to suitable water is a right of every human being and asked the world states to take actions to ensure water security that is indispensable for people in the entire world.
