Astana, 8 June 2023 (TDI): The Astana International Forum commenced today with a call for global cooperation and innovative solutions to critical global concerns.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres addressed in a video message to the distinguished attendees. He praised the forum’s dedication to solving immediate issues via dialogue.
In recognition of the challenging times the world is currently experiencing, Secretary-General Guterres highlighted the persistence of both ongoing and new conflicts, the escalating geopolitical tensions, the unrelenting climate crisis, rising hunger and inequality, and the significant departure from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — the blueprint for peace and prosperity on a healthy planet.
Secretary-General Guterres stated that these global challenges can only be adequately addressed through joint effort and cooperation. He emphasized the urgent need for processes and actions that meet the speed and scope of today’s challenges.

Guterres noted that the UN is making strides to improve international cooperation, strengthen global governance, and address pressing global issues. The UN proposes a reformed multilateralism that is more appropriate, more inclusive, and capable of handling new risks and threats while conserving the planet for future generations through the Common Agenda project.
The UN Secretary-General urged world leaders to act quickly to save the SDGs, restructure the existing financial framework to promote justice, and confront common dangers. He underlined the significance of upcoming summits, beginning with the SDG summit in September, as critical junctures for coordinated action.
Additionally, Guterres declared that the Summit of the Future, scheduled for the subsequent year, will expand upon the proposals presented in the Common Agenda. This summit will go deeper into creating the route forward, assuring the adoption of novel ideas and revolutionary initiatives.

Secretary-General Guterres expressed his appreciation and wishes for the conference’s success. He asserted that the Astana International Forum, as a dialogue structure, offers a new opportunity to engage in extensive debates and build collaborative, sustainable, and innovative solutions that benefit all.
