Ambassadors of Poland, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania meet DG UN Migration

Geneva, 30 September 2021 (TDI): The ambassadors to Geneva of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland, called upon the Director-General of UN Migration, Antonio Vitorino in Geneva.

The representatives of the aforementioned countries expressed their concerns about the possible deterioration in the peace of Europe pointing to irregular migration. The representatives of these countries in the United Nations General Assembly had earlier voiced their opinions in UNGA.

There have been reports that a number of people are migrating irregularly and illegally into the European Union through Belarus. The representatives demanded the DG of UN Migration take serious notice of these events.

These countries share a border with Belarus. The representatives expressed their concerns about illegal migration. For this purpose, they demanded that United Nations play its role in curbing illegal human trafficking and care for the human rights of the migrants.

The representatives reiterated that they stand together in this matter and the security of Europe will remain their priority in this matter.
