Islamabad, 16 August 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Oybek Usmanov called on Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister underscored the need for operationalizing the Transit Trade Agreement. He further stressed implementing Preferential Trade Agreements between Pakistan and Uzbekistan to enhance bilateral economic cooperation.

Moreover, he highlighted the importance of the Trans-Afghan Railway Project in order to advance the connectivity agenda and promote prosperity in the region.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also assured to welcome investments from Uzbekistan in the Special Economic Zones of Pakistan, particularly in the electronics, industrial and agricultural sectors.
Further, he emphasized Pakistan’s vision for deeper engagement with the Central Asian region and the significant role of Uzbekistan in this regard.
Moreover, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the existing level of fraternal and close ties between the two states.
Additionally, he stressed the need to further deepen the bilateral relations in the areas of trade, economy, tourism education, and culture. He also highlighted further promoting people-to-people contacts.
Likewise, both parties exchanged their perspectives on regional issues during the meeting. Noting the situation in Afghanistan, the Prime Minister assured Pakistan’s strong commitment to peace, and stability of the state.
He also re-affirmed the support for the Afghan community in tackling these challenging circumstances.
Lastly, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan conveyed warm greetings by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan to the Prime Minister. He further said that the President is looking forward to welcoming him at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in September.
Pakistan and Uzbekistan Relations
Pakistan was among the first states who recognized Uzbekistan in 1991 after the soviet disintegration. Since then, the two states enjoy cordial ties. The relations between the two states are bound by a shared cultural and religious background.
Apart from this, there has been a frequent exchange of state visits between Government officials, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.
