Karachi, 10 September 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Pakistan, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called on Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, on Friday. The meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between Pakistan and Qatar. The two dignitaries also held discussions on the flood situation in Pakistan and the devastation caused by it.

Further, they talked about relief works being done by the Pakistani government and other institutions in rain-affected areas of Sindh.

Recently, on 6 September, the Ambassador of Qatar also met with the Defence Minister of Pakistan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

During the meeting, Pakistan’s Defence Minister conveyed that Pakistan highly values its relations with the State of Qatar. Moreover, the two dignitaries held discussions on various matters of mutual interest.

Qatar-Pakistan Bilateral Relations

The two states enjoy close and cordial fraternal ties, since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in the early 1970s. Moreover, the relations between Pakistan and Qatar are based on mutual trust and understanding and close cooperation.

The two states collaborate in various sectors to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields of bilateral interest. Qatar supported Pakistan in the 2010 floods by providing rapid aid.

Qatar is also home to around 200,000 Pakistani people who contribute to the economic development and prosperity of the two brotherly states.

Recently, the economic relations between the two countries witnessed a remarkable development as the bilateral trade reached around 2 billion US dollars.

Apart from this, regular high-level political exchanges are also a hallmark of the Pakistan and Qatar partnership. Recently, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif visited Qatar and met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

During his visit, the two states strengthened their trade and investment ties. Moreover, Qatar Investment Authority agreed to invest 3 billion US dollars in various sectors in Pakistan.

Along with these, Qatar has been also providing humanitarian and financial assistance to Pakistan amid devastating floods in the country.
