Islamabad, 22 September 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, Yerzhan Kistafin, met Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and the co-chairman of the Kazakhstan-Pakistan intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural cooperation.

During the meeting, the Ambassador and the Federal Minister discussed the events planned until the end of this year as part of the bilateral agenda, as well as the instructions following the meeting of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif.

The meeting had taken place on the sidelines of the SCO Heads of State Council on 16 September 2022 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Meeting of Kazakh President and Pakistani Prime Minister

Both leaders were in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for the two-day SCO Summit. During the meeting, President Tokayev expressed his thoughts and regrets for the destruction inflicted by severe climate change-induced floods in Pakistan.

They addressed bilateral relations as well as critical regional and international problems.

The Prime Minister accentuated the significance of the Trans-Afghan Railway Project, which would connect Uzbekistan to Pakistan via Afghanistan.

The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Kazakhstan cooperation in a variety of areas, including commerce, investment, and transportation linkages.

Pakistan-Kazakhstan relations 

Pakistan serves as a natural connection between the Eurasian heartland and the Arabian Sea and South Asia.

It provides crucial overland channels and connections for mutually advantageous intra- and inter-regional commerce and energy transactions.

Pakistan’s first Prime Ministerial visit occurred in 1995, followed by a second Prime Ministerial visit in 2011. In 2011, Pakistan’s President also paid a visit to Kazakhstan.

President Nazarbayev paid two visits to Pakistan, in 1992 and 2003. Several parliamentary and ministerial committees also exchanged visits. Read more
