Ambassador of Canada meeting with Foreign Minister of Ecuador

Quito, 29 September 2022 (TDI): The newly appointed Ambassador of Canada, Stephen Potter presented credentials to the Foreign Minister of Ecuador, Juan Carlos Holguin.

Moreover, during the meeting, the Ambassador of Canada and the Foreign Minister of Ecuador also shared their interests. They shared their collective interests regarding the Tennis star and the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The Canadian Embassy in Ecuador announced that the copies of credentials were presented to the foreign ministry in Quito. It was also added that both Ottawa and Quito will work on the increasing momentum of the bilateral relations based on collective goals.

The Embassy of Canada to Ecuador also thanked Foreign Minister Juan Holguin for the warm welcome to Ambassador Potter.

The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry tweeted that arrival of the Canadian Ambassador will give a new boost to the stronger relations between Canada and Ecuador in the future.

Canada’s Relationship with Ecuador

Canada and Ecuador sustain a deeply tied relationship with each other. Both sides are cooperating in sectors of education, human rights, and liberal values, as well as promoting democratic principles on a regional basis.

The two sides established complete relations on the official level in the year 1960. The Canadian side has its embassy at Quito and an Honorary Consulate at Guayaquil. While Ecuadorian state has its embassy in Ottawa and runs consulates in Vancouver and Toronto.

Canada supports the position of Ecuador in regard to hosting migrants, refugees, and other displaced peoples. The Canadian government provided Ecuador with Canadian dollars 10.6 million in 2021 to assist the Venezuelan migrants.

Recently in July 2022, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the enhancement of commercial relations. Canadian and Ecuadorian governments had already agreed for signing a free trade agreement.
