Islamabad, 1 December 2021 (TDI): Bulgarian Ambassador Irena Gancheva met Dr. Ghulam Ali, Chairman Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) at the Headquarters in Islamabad.
Ambassador Irena congratulated Chairman PARC Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali and shared about the diverse avenues of Pakistan-Bulgaria collaboration on the Agriculture sector.
While speaking on the occasion Chairman PARC thanked the Ambassador on her visit to PARC. Dr. Ghulam Ali said that Pakistan and Bulgaria have huge potential to cooperate in the Agriculture sector. This will be mutually beneficial for enhancing food security and alleviating poverty.
Dr. Falak Naz, Member Coordination and Monitoring Division, and other high officials of PARC were also present in the meeting.
It was agreed to sign the MOU covering important areas of agriculture, such as Germplasm sharing, Farm mechanization, Livestock breed improvement, and high-value horticulture crops framework for bilateral cooperation between the sides. The Ambassador thanked Chairman PARC, for extending support for fruitful cooperation.
Pakistan-Bulgaria Agriculture CooperationÂ
Pakistan and Bulgaria have strong partnerships in building agriculture cooperation. PARC and Agriculture Academy of Bulgaria are building cooperation to link and share important learning together for food security and agriculture growth.
In 2019 when the Bulgarian Minister for Economy visited Pakistan during the second meeting of the Pakistan-Bulgaria Inter-Ministerial Commission, extensive cooperation in the field of Agriculture including the sustainable imports of cotton and rice from Pakistan.
Bulgaria has also offered Pakistan in the field of veterinary medicine for which Bulgaria is famous. Pakistan exports, chemical materials, and products, sports goods, toys, cotton fabrics, synthetic fabric to Bulgaria.
Both countries are cooperating in livestock, breeding, food safety and processing, and phytosanitary measures.
It is important to note that Pakistan is the world’s 5th largest dairy milk-producing country in the world. While on the other hand, Bulgaria has its own strength in agriculture production and animal breeding. This can be mutually beneficial for both countries.
