July 18, 2021 – (TDI): United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield issues a statement on Nelson Mandela International Day. While commemorating this day, she praised Nelson Mandela for his devotion to serving the public and determination to promote a fair, all-including, and equitable world. She termed Mandela’s resolve to fight for human rights, liberty, and democracy as the essence of Nelson Mandela International Day. Among exceptional challenges, Mandela’s unique courage, resilience, compassion, and strength represent the ability of everyone to inspire and to change, she expressed.
She applauded the impact of Mandela’s efforts to better the communities and nations, as his legacy works as a beacon of light for the generations after him. The Young African Leaders Initiative Mandela Washington Fellowship has assisted 24,000 sub-Sahara African youth in obtaining academic and leadership training from America, since 2010. These young people promoting Mandela’s values satisfy Ambassador Linda’s concerns about the future.
At the end of her statement, Ambassador Linda shared about her meeting with Mandela and how great of an inspiration he is to her. On a day dedicated to him, she encouraged the international community to adopt his values and walk on his path, to make the world, a better, free and fair place.
