Islamabad, 29 April 2023 (TDI): The Japanese government recently announced the recipients of the 2023 Spring Conferment of Decorations. One of the honorees is Ambassador Imtiaz Ahmad, the former envoy of Pakistan to Japan.
He will be decorated with “the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” in recognition of his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and promote friendship between Japan and Pakistan.
Imtiaz Ahmad has served as a diplomat in Japan for over 16 years, holding almost every post from young diplomat to Ambassador.
He has gained extensive knowledge of the Japanese language, culture, and history, which has been instrumental in enhancing relations between the two countries in various fields.

In addition to his diplomatic duties, Ambassador Imtiaz Ahmad has also made notable contributions to the Japanese people. After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, he served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo.
He showed great dedication by reaching out to the Pakistani community in Tokyo and visiting the affected areas with them every weekend to provide Pakistani food and distribute relief supplies.
Both Pakistani and Japanese media highly praised his presence and efforts, and many Japanese people were moved by his and the Pakistani people’s compassion for the disaster victims.
2023 Spring Conferment of Decorations
The 2023 Spring Conferment of Decorations is a ceremony held by the Japanese government to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to various fields, including international relations, culture, and academia.
The recipients are awarded various decorations, such as the Order of the Rising Sun, the Order of the Sacred Treasure, and the Order of Culture. The ceremony is held twice a year, in the spring and the fall.
