United Nations (TDI): Pakistan’s Alternative Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, called on Somalia’s Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, and discussed “matters related to the UN Security Council”.
Somalia, along with Pakistan, is one of five new non-permanent members that joined the 15-member UNSC on January 1 for a period of two years (2025-26).
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar emphasized the importance of collaboration between Pakistan and Somalia in advancing the shared goals of the UN Security Council.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the principles of peace, security and multilateralism during its tenure as a non-permanent member of the UNSC.
Both envoys discussed strategies to address pressing global challenges, including conflict resolution and sustainable development.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar also held a meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Li Junhua.
During the meeting, matters related to economic and social development including cooperation between Pakistan and DESA were discussed, the press release said.

Iftikhar highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He underscored the importance of enhanced technical support and knowledge-sharing from DESA to accelerated progress in critical areas such as poverty alleviation, education and climate action.
