Donald Armin Blome, popularly referred to as Donald Blome, is a seasoned US diplomat with over 3 decades of experience in foreign service. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and had his early schooling at Deerfield High School.
He then obtained his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Michigan. Blome is contentedly married to Debra, and they have three offspring: Sarah, Nicholas, and Carl.
Donald Blome commenced his professional journey as a legal practitioner in Chicago, Illinois, in 1985 prior to transitioning into diplomacy. He joined the United States Foreign Service in 1993.

During his distinguished professional life, he occupied several positions, including counsellor and minister-counsellor, in multiple regions, acquiring competence.

Foreign Service Career
According to his service history, Ambassador Blome served as the U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, he tenured at the Libya External Office in Tunis, Tunisia, as the Chargé d’Affaires.
Before that, he was designated as the American Consul General in Jerusalem on July 27, 2015. From 2013 to 2015, he served as the Director of the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs at the State Department.
He remained as a political counsellor at the US Embassy in Kabul from 2012 to 2013. He held the position of Minister Counsellor for Economic and Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo from 2009 to 2012.
Between 2007 and 2008, he co-directed the Strategic Engagement Cell of Baghdad’s Multi-National Force. He has held the position of political counsellor in Kuwait.
He served as the Deputy Director of the State Department’s Office of Israel and Palestine Affairs.Alongside his responsibilities in the embassies in Riyadh and Amman, he served as a desk officer for Iran.
Current Status
Donald Blome is currently serving as the 31st US ambassador to Pakistan. In May 2022, he became the first full-time ambassador to Pakistan.
This nomination comes after a four-year hiatus since David Hale’s retirement in 2018, providing an important chance to revive and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
