Kabul, 17 August 2021 (TDI): On Monday, Ghulam M. Isaczai, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, addressed the emergency UN Security Council meeting on the Afghan situation.

He claimed that he is speaking on behalf of millions of Afghans who face an uncertain future. He stressed that the situation in Kabul, a city of roughly six million people, is particularly concerning. He was apprehensive that the Taliban would not keep their promises and obligations made in Doha and other international forums.

Ambassador Ghulam M. Isaczai  encouraged the United Nations Security Council to call for an urgent end of violence and the establishment of an inclusive transitional government. He urged the Taliban to stop target killings and retaliatory attacks and to follow International Humanitarian Law.  also called on the neighboring countries to open their borders and assist the people attempting to flee as well as provide humanitarian aid.
