ISLAMABAD (TDI): A high-level meeting of the Focal Group, established by the Prime Minister to oversee the progress of Industrial Zones in Pakistan, was held in the chair with Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Privatization, and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan.
The group reviewed developments in Free Economic Zones across the country and discussed various challenges and proposals aimed at resolving these issues.
Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the need for special incentives for these Special Economic Zones.
He mentioned the importance of designating the Karachi Industrial Park as a model and noted the necessity of finalizing several steps, including handing over one Special Economic Zone to China on a trial basis, as requested by the Prime Minister.

Khan highlighted that while Industrial Zones present a fantastic opportunity to promote industries in Pakistan, they have been significantly neglected over the years, resulting in various challenges that require urgent attention.
He directed that special incentives and facilities must be ensured for the industrial zones and approved the preparation of final recommendations by the Focal Group to expedite the resolution of pending issues.

He further stated that the establishment of new industries in the country hinges on offering special privileges within these industrial zones, moving away from outdated practices.
The meeting included Federal Secretaries for Energy, Industry, and Investment, along with other senior officials, who provided updates on the status of the industrial zones.
It was decided that the full agenda would be discussed and finalized in the next meeting of the Focal Group, where important decisions would be made to ensure the rapid development of all Industrial Zones.
