Addis Ababa, 17 August 2022 (TDI): Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) presented a flagship program document to the Ministry of Agriculture Ethiopia.

It works in coordination with the Government of Ethiopia’s Agricultural Sector Development Program (ASDP II) to transform the country’s agricultural system.

AGRA-supported Flagship Programs

The Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia requested AGRA to increase support for developing five flagship programs for Ethiopia. It has developed three flagship programs in Ethiopia until now.

The three flagship programs include the National rice flagship program, National wheat flagship program, and oilseed and animal feed program.

During the presentation ceremony, AGRA Ethiopia Program Officer, Ayele Gabreamlak, said that AGRA in Ethiopia was building key service delivery systems for smallholder farmers.

It supports the development of evidence-based policies to create an enabling environment and enhance the execution capacity of the ministry of agriculture and affiliate institutions.

Furthermore, the Minister of Agriculture of Ethiopia, Oumer Hussein, stated, “we seek to enhance financial and technical support from our development partners and active participation of the private sectors and it also helps the three agricultural commodities flagship program by materializing it.”

The organization also works with the Government and various strategic partners to increase private sector participation and investment in the agricultural sector. The Government of Ethiopia implements the flagship program under the ten-year perspective plan.

AGRA’s investments in Ethiopia

AGRA has built an asset base in technologies, partnerships, and models. It is significant for the status of inclusive agriculture in Ethiopia.

From 2017-2021 AGRA has sought to improve food security in the country. It creates a pathway for agricultural transformation through an investment of $15.5 million in Ethiopia.
