African Union organizes Gender Pre-Forum in its 10th High-Level Dialogue.

Addis Ababa, 7 December 2021 (TDI): African Union organizes Gender Pre-Forum in its 10th High-Level Dialogue. Likewise, the event’s theme is “Enhancing Opportunities for Women in leadership and decision making: As a Lever for the Africa We Want.” The event was held from 6th December to 7th December through virtual means.

The forum participants were Gender-based organizations, representatives from African Union member countries, representatives of the African Governance Platform, members of International Organizations, development partners, and UN agencies officials. Besides, academics, experts, think tanks, and research institutions also attended the event.

Goal and Thematic Focus of the Dialogue 

The Gender Pre-Forum to the High-Level Dialogue aims to provide an open, collaborative and inclusive space for meaningful participation of women. Further, it aims for the inclusion of women’s leadership in governance and decision-making in Africa.

Besides, the thematic focus is Women’s Contribution to Leadership through arts, heritage, and culture. It also pays attention to the latest situation of Women in Decision Making and Leadership in the African continent.  Likewise, it also focuses on the African Union role and Women in Leadership.

Gender Pre-Forum: An Overview

Gender Pre-Forum is part of the discussions of the 10th high-level dialogue on democracy, human rights, and governance, exploring trends, challenges, and prospects.

Additionally, Gender Pre-Forum arranges under the patronage of African Governance Platform’s Women Engagement Strategy (AGA-WES). The pre-forum presents an opportunity for women to discuss challenges, highlight trends, and way forward on their contribution to the African Union (AU) theme of 2021. Likewise, the annual theme of the African Union is “Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa We Want.”

Moreover, the Pre-Forum provides a space to involve African women in policy-making
discussions, and recognize their contribution toward democracy, governance, and
conflict prevention in African Continent.
