Islamabad (TDI): Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan held a productive bilateral meeting with Iran’s Minister for Industry, Mining, and Trade Mohammad Atabak on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) 2024.
The two-day summit was held on October 15 and 16 at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad.
It was attended by the leaders from the SCO member states including China’s Premier of the State Council Li Qiang, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Tajik Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Kyrgyzstan’s Chairman of Ministers’ Cabinet Zhaparov Akylbek, Trade Minister of Iran Seyyed Mohammad Atabek, and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The two dignitaries agreed on strengthening trade relations, enhancing industrial cooperation, and cultural exchange.
They called for enhancing economic ties through increased bilateral trade and investment.
“There is huge potential for bilateral trade however it is yet to be realized,” Kamal said.

He highlighted that Pakistan and Iran had a strategic advantage due to their location and that they should fully utilize it as a gateway to Central Asia and the Middle East.
He called for stronger economic cooperation between the two countries, not only to enhance bilateral trade but also to promote prosperity in the wider region.
The Iranian minister thanked Jam Kamal, the government and the people of Pakistan for their warm hospitality and invited him for a high-level visit to Iran.
