Kazakh, Belarus PMs Return Home After Attending SCO Meeting

Islamabad (TDI): Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan, Olzhasbek Tenov, and Belarus, Roman Golovchenko, have returned to their respective countries after attending the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The two-day summit was held on October 15 and 16 at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad.

Federal Minister for Privatisation Abdul Aleem Khan saw them off at the Noor Khan Airbase.

Before departing, both dignitaries expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality they received in Pakistan and called for more visits and mutual collaborations in the future that could benefit the region.

Aleem Khan highlighted the importance of such connections. “Frequent bilateral visits and collaborations will yield fruitful outcomes for the entire region,” he added.

The two-day SCO summit successfully concluded in Islamabad.

Addressing the meeting, PM Shehbaz stressed the expansion of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), adding that peace in Afghanistan is key to paving the way for regional connectivity.

“Flagship projects, like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and the International, North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) should be expanded, focusing on developing road, rail, and digital infrastructure, that enhances integration and cooperation, across the region,” he said in an address to the participants.

The premier noted that the SCO represents the collective voice of over 40% of the global population, rooted in the Shanghai spirit.

He emphasized the need to promote a shared vision of an economically integrated region and to invest in connectivity projects, urging that these should not be viewed through a political prism.
