ASHGABAT, (TDI): Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who arrived in Turkmenistan earlier today for an official visit, unveiled a monument to the renowned Kazakh poet Abai in Ashgabat, alongside Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the former president and Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan.
During the ceremony, President Tokayev expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Berdimuhamedov and the Turkmen people for honoring him with the jubilee medal commemorating the “300th Anniversary of Magtymguly Pyragy.” He described this award as a symbol of mutual understanding and friendship between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
In his address, Tokayev highlighted the significance of the monument’s unveiling, calling it a powerful demonstration of the special respect that the Turkmen people have for their Kazakh neighbors. He emphasized the importance of preserving the legacies of distinguished figures, thinkers, and poets who have profoundly influenced the history and culture of both nations, ensuring their contributions are remembered for future generations.
The event attracted a diverse audience, including members of Turkmenistan’s creative intelligentsia and an official delegation from Kazakhstan. It featured a vibrant performance by the dance group “Kalkynysh,” which presented a captivating piece titled “Turkmen-Kazakh Friendship,” celebrating the cultural ties between the two nations.

Tokayev will participate in the international forum, “Interconnection of Times and Civilizations – the Basis of Peace and Development,” which will be held in Ashgabat on October 11, commemorating the 300th anniversary of the poet Magtymguly Pyragy.
