Malaysian PM Welcomes Pakistan’s ASEAN Engagement

Islamabad (TDI): Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the PM House on Thursday.

The two leaders engaged in meaningful and outcome-oriented discussions in a warm and cordial atmosphere, covering a wide range of bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest, including challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah.

During the meeting, they explored mechanisms to enhance bilateral cooperation aimed at achieving concrete results in these areas.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Prime Minister Ibrahim on Malaysia’s upcoming Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025.

Prime Minister Ibrahim welcomed Pakistan’s ongoing engagement with ASEAN as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner and expressed support for further collaboration between Pakistan and ASEAN, highlighting Islamabad’s potential for a larger role within the organization.

Recognizing the long history of close cooperation between their nations, both prime ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership.

They emphasized the importance of dialogue and exchanges of visits at all levels and highlighted the significance of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), Bilateral Consultations, and other mechanisms to enhance engagement.

Earlier today, Malaysia’s Prime Minister received a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Prime Minister House.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif greeted him at the main entrance, as reported by local media.
