Islamabad, (TDI): Pakistan and Italy have reiterated their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations through closer cooperation, with a focus on parliamentary friendship, economic growth, and cultural exchange.
This resolve was expressed during the inaugural meeting of the Pakistan-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) at the Parliament House, chaired by Shazia Marri, MNA and Convener of the group.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce, Ali Javed, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Italy, along with Marilina Armellin, the Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan.
The discussions centered on strengthening economic and trade ties and advancing shared priorities.
Ambassador Armellin reaffirmed Italy’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s development, particularly in rural economic growth.
She highlighted Italy’s role in fostering long-term projects that would benefit both nations, including key agricultural initiatives.
Marri underscored the importance of expanding cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries, particularly by addressing the lengthy visa processing times for Pakistani students.
She urged the prioritization of student visas to expedite the process, ensuring smoother opportunities for youth seeking education in Italy.

Expressing gratitude for Italy’s generous support during Pakistan’s 2022 floods, Marri commended the Italian government’s contributions to climate awareness campaigns.
In response, Ambassador Armellin outlined Italy’s ongoing efforts to raise climate change awareness through a dedicated radio program.
One of the major initiatives discussed was Italy’s flagship project aimed at establishing a multi-professional olive oil sector in Pakistan.
The Italian government has committed to providing technical assistance and training to boost olive oil production and improve food security, the envoy said.
Ambassador Armellin further shared Italy’s efforts in promoting the development of olive oil-based cosmetic products in Baluchistan, with a focus on empowering rural women through economic opportunities.

“Italy is also prepared to supply machinery for olive oil extraction and support Pakistan’s dairy sector.”
Marri stressed the urgency of finalizing pending agreements between Pakistan and Italy, particularly the visa abolition agreement for diplomatic passports, which would facilitate seamless official interactions between the two nations.
In her closing remarks, Marri emphasized the crucial role of the Parliamentary Friendship Group in deepening bilateral relations.
She highlighted the potential for enhanced people-to-people contacts through parliamentary linkages, youth engagement, and sports diplomacy.
According to Marri, such initiatives would cement stronger ties between Pakistan and Italy and pave the way for greater cooperation across multiple sectors.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism about furthering their relationship and enhancing collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
