China Tests Fires ICBM Missile

ISLAMABAD (TDI): China conducted a test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), into the Pacific Ocean, Defense Ministry said.

According to a statement issued by Defense Ministry the missile carried a dummy warhead and fell into a designated area of the sea.

The People’s Liberation Army stated that the launch was part of routine annual training and confirmed that it complied with international law, specifying that the test was not aimed at any particular country or target.

The frequency of China’s long-range missile tests remains unclear, but the country previously launched an ICBM into the South Pacific in 1980.

At that time, a map indicated a target area roughly encircled by the Solomon Islands, Nauru, and other Pacific nations.

While U.S. officials and various non-governmental organizations have pointed to China’s efforts to expand its missile silos, the exact number of missiles and nuclear warheads in its arsenal is still unknown.
