Pakistan’s First High-Speed Rail Initiative

-

Islamabad (TDI): The first high-speed rail project in Pakistan is currently in the planning stages.

A proposal for a high-speed rail link connecting Lahore and Rawalpindi has already been submitted to the Punjab chief minister’s office for approval.

The departments of transportation and mass transit have devised the project, which is projected to cost $1.6 billion.

The documents claim that trains will be able to move at up to 250 km/h thanks to the high-speed rail, cutting the distance between Lahore and Rawalpindi’s travel time to less than two hours.

As a result of the railway department’s pre-feasibility research, the proposal highlights the need for an action plan to be created.

According to the documents, funding for the pre-feasibility study will come from the Department of Planning and Development. For the big endeavor, however, obtaining upfront finance is still a major obstacle.

A fast and effective way to travel between two of Pakistan’s biggest cities, the high-speed train, if permitted, will represent a significant advancement in the modernization of the nation’s transportation system.
