Beijing, (TDI): Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian has criticized the Quad alliance, asserting that the grouping is fundamentally aimed at containing China as part of the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy.
Lin described the Quad as a tool for the U.S. to perpetuate its hegemony, urging Washington to abandon its fixation on maintaining supremacy and to stop utilizing regional countries for its own interests.
“The U.S. is lying through its teeth, and even the U.S. media does not believe it,” he stated, referencing U.S. President Biden’s comments made during the 2024 Quad Leaders’ Summit.

He emphasized that the Indo-Pacific strategy seeks to create coalitions that exclude China while promoting a “China threat” narrative.
Lin criticized the Quad’s focus on military and security cooperation under the guise of maritime issues, asserting that discussions during the summit heavily revolved around China.
Positive Cooperation
Lin urged that cooperation among countries should not target third parties or harm their interests, stating that any regional initiative must align with the prevailing trend toward peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific.
He argued that forming exclusive groupings undermines mutual trust among regional nations and contradicts the desire for development and cooperation.

Lin reiterated his call for the U.S. to act on its claims that its alliances are not directed at China and to refrain from pursuing selfish gains at the expense of regional security and the well-being of the Asia-Pacific populace.
Regarding joint coast guard cooperation among Quad members, Lin remarked that China remains open to normal maritime collaboration, provided it does not target other nations or undermine regional peace and stability.
