Los Angeles, 7 June 2022 (TDI): The United States is hosting the Ninth Summit of the Americas for the week of June 6-10 in Los Angeles, California.
The main theme of the Summit is “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future” for the American hemisphere.
This Summit marks the first time the US has hosted the event after the inaugural assembly in Miami in 1994.
The Present meeting follows the ideal that the people of the Americas need powerful and accountable governance. The Ninth Summit aims to map America’s collective direction toward a sustainable, resilient, and equitable destiny.
As the host, the USA will represent the stakeholders’ interests in securing commitments and policy recommendations to enhance pandemic response and resilience.
Furthermore, it aims to promote equitable economic recovery, develop robust and inclusive democracies, and cope with the basic reasons for irregular migration.
Moreover, different leaders will interact with the media from June 7-10. The event incorporates the Inaugural Ceremony and Head of Delegation Plenary Sessions.
Representatives, including the heads of states and foreign ministers from all over the Americas, are participating in the Summit.
However, the US did not invite Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua, drawing criticism from several quarters for being exclusionary. Leaders of Argentina, Mexico, and the Caribbean states have denounced the US for excluding important American states from the Summit.
Summit of the Americas
Summit of the Americas is a regional international summit organized under the Organization of American States since 1994.
Previously, Peru hosted the last Summit of the Americas in 2018.
The Summit is a unique possibility to work with international leaders in the region for tackling the demanding contemporary situations. The leaders will discuss and agree on a forward-looking timetable that solves continental challenges.
Moreover, as the hemispheric assembly of leaders from the nations of the Americas, the Summit serves as the most crucial discussion forum to address the region’s common challenges and opportunities.
