Amman, 31 October 2022 (TDI): The Seventh International Investment Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency began in Jordan, on Sunday.

This is a three-day forum that will be attended by officials of the State of Qatar, government and private sectors as well as universities and research institutions.

The main aim of the forum is to discuss various topics, including but not limited to renewable energy, smart cities, green hydrogen, and sustainability issues.

The Chairman of the Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) and Chairman of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), Issa bin Hilal Al Kuwari addressed the forum.

He stated that the sustainable development challenge faced by the Arab World is the lack of infrastructure and electrical interconnection between Arab countries.

Along these lines, he declared the forum as an integration project that serves Arab societies and governments as a whole.

Moving forward, he highlighted the significance of establishing and supporting scientific research institutes and universities in Arab countries, while stressing the participation of youth in the field of scientific research and innovation.

The Chairman considered the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as a vital accomplishment of Qatar and the Arab region in addressing the sustainability issue, as the tournament is the first-ever carbon-neutral World Cup in history.

He further added that AREC is keen to exert its efforts regarding energy sustainability issues. In return, the attendees of the forum appreciated the exemplified role of the State of Qatar in dealing with sustainable development policies.

The participants praised the various energy efficiency initiatives adopted by Qatar like; the Al Kharsaah solar power plant with a capacity of 800 MW, to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Under the supervision of AREC and KAHRAMAA, the forum is conducting various workshops related to artificial intelligence, agricultural innovations, renewable energy storage, and sustainable development.
