4th round of Pakistan-China Maritime Dialogue

Islamabad, 1 December 2023 (TDI): 4th round of Pakistan-China Maritime Dialogue was held on Thursday in Islamabad to discuss bilateral maritime affairs and prospects between the two countries. 

The dialogue was co-chaired by the Director General (China) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Muhammad Aamir Khan along with the Deputy Director General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs China, Wang Jinfeng. 

Both sides expressed their satisfaction at the ongoing cooperation in the domain of maritime and agreed to further enhance it. 

During the meeting, an in-depth exchange of views on the entire spectrum of bilateral maritime cooperation was held which included naval exchanges, regional cooperation and development of maritime infrastructure. 

Also, the collaboration in fisheries, science and technology, search and rescue missions, maritime disaster management and combating maritime pollution were part of the consultations. 

Both delegations pointed out at the time-tested friendship between Pakistan and China along with the All-weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries while committing to further expand bilateral maritime cooperation since the previous round. 

The two sides also highlighted the evolving regional and global maritime changes and agreed that their mutual cooperation was in line with their common vision for a peaceful and prosperous Asia-Pacific region. 

In order to advance practical cooperation to jointly respond to emerging threats and challenges the need of bilateral exchanges between the two countries was emphasized. 

Both sides underscored the importance of maritime cooperation and agreed to maintain the momentum of bilateral exchanges and to promote ties between the navies of the two countries.

During the visit the Deputy Director General Wang Jinfeng also called on the Additional Secretary (Asia-Pacific) of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan, Imran Ahmed Siddiqui. 

Additional Foreign Secretary expressed his satisfaction at the ongoing maritime cooperation between Pakistan and China and accepted the invitation to visit China next year for the 5th round of maritime dialogue between Pakistan and China. 

The Chinese delegation thanked Pakistan for extending hospitality and warm reception to the Chinese side.
