Riga, 16 September 2021 (TDI): Tomorrow, Friday, September 17, 2021, marks the 30th year of Latvia’s membership in the United Nations (UN) since its independence in 1991. At the UN Headquarters in New York, the flags of the Baltic States will be raised as a symbol of its return to the international community.
The aspirations of Latvia in the UN are to protect and strengthen the International community, favorable for the country’s security, democratic principles, human rights, and the rule of law. For three decades, Latvia gained relations with other countries, participated in peacekeeping missions, and contributed to the UN structure to address humanity’s problems.
On top of that, there will be a series of events to be held starting tomorrow, Friday, September 17 – October 24. The highlights of the program are centered on the themes and topics related to the UN and UNESCO.
