Dushanbe/Islamabad, 14 July 2022 (TDI): Today Pakistan and Tajikistan are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties. In 1992, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan established diplomatic ties. Both countries have been cooperating since 1991.

Relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan

Bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is growing as a result of cooperative efforts.

Notably, for 27 years of relations between the two countries, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan paid a number of official and state visits to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

For example, on the 1st of March in 2017, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

In line with this, President Rahmon also participated in the 13th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Islamabad.

Furthermore, both countries have an Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.

Particularly, it is part of the main mechanisms for the development of bilateral economic cooperation.

In July 2019, a regular meeting of the Tajik-Pakistani intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation was held in Dushanbe.

Additionally, in March this year, the Foreign Ministers of both countries met and discussed bilateral relations. As well as promoting bilateral cooperation in different fields of mutual interest, in addition to regional and global issues.

Noteworthy, in the first six months of 2021, there was a gradual recovery in trade between both countries.

Therefore, at the time, trade between Tajikistan and Pakistan reached $ 18.9 million. Thus having increased by 6.3 % compared to the same period of 2020.

In a similar manner, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan continue being active.

In addition to this, Tajikistan and Pakistan are part of the CASA 1000 project. The project demonstrates landmark cooperation among the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
