Beihai, 27 June 2023 (TDI): The 17th ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction took place today, June 27, in Beihai, marking a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts between ASEAN and China.

The forum served as a platform for the exchange of innovative ideas, perspectives, and best practices aimed at eradicating poverty and fostering transformative rural development.

Representatives from ASEAN and China came together to engage in fruitful discussions, sharing their experiences and strategies for tackling poverty-related challenges. Chinese ambassador to ASEAN Hou Yanqi addressed the forum and focused on poverty alleviation through agricultural development and food security cooperation.

 

The forum emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation and learning from one another’s successes to create sustainable solutions for poverty reduction and uplift rural communities.

With poverty eradication being a shared priority, the participants recognized the urgent need to address the multidimensional aspects of poverty. They emphasized the significance of comprehensive approaches that consider social, economic, and environmental factors, aiming to uplift individuals, families, and entire communities.

As the 17th ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction concluded, the participating nations expressed their renewed commitment to intensify cooperation and forge stronger partnerships. They acknowledged the potential for further collaboration in areas such as knowledge sharing, capacity building, and investment in sustainable development projects.

16th ASEAN-China Forum

The 16th ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction took place in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The International Poverty Reduction Center in China and the Rural Revitalization Administration of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region organized the forum. The forum, held both online and offline, centered on the theme of “Strengthening exchanges on poverty reduction and jointly building a prosperous homeland.”
