16 Soldiers Martyred in South Waziristan Clash

Rawalpindi (TDI): Sixteen Pakistan Army soldiers embraced martyrdom while thwarting terrorists’ bid to attack a security check post in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

On the night between December 20-21, a group of terrorists attempted to attack security forces check post in general area Makeen in South Waziristan, the military media wing said in a statement.

It said the attempt was effectively thwarted by forces and in ensuing fire exchange, “8 khwarij [terrorists] were sent to hell”.

“During the fierce exchange of fire, 16 brave soldiers fought valiantly and embraced martyrdom.”

The ISPR said sanitisation operation was started in the area and the perpetrators of the heinous attack will be brought to justice.

“Pakistan’s security forces remained committed to eliminating  terrorism, and the sacrifices of our brave soldiers only strengthen this resolve.”

PM Condemns Terrorist Attack

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a security check post in the Makeen area of the tribal district.

In a statement, he paid glowing tribute to the sixteen brave security personnel, who embraced martyrdom while courageously combating the terrorists.

He extended his deepest condolences to the martyrs’ families, and prayed for the elevation of their ranks.

The PM said that our security forces are determined to eliminate terrorists, defending the nation with courage and determination.

He added that the entire nation salutes the martyrs for their ultimate sacrifices, and assured that the country is committed in its fight to eliminate terrorism in all its forms.

Moreover, a Pakistan Army soldier was martyred and 4 terrorists were neutralised on Saturday after security forces successfully thwarted a bid to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ISPR said.

It said that the forces engaged the terrorists after their movement was picked in Rajgal area in the night between December 19 and 20.
