Beijing, 25 August 2023 (TDI): The 13th Expert Group Meeting was held from 21 to 24 August 2023 was held in Beijing, China.
The meeting was conducted in a friendly environment to keep the relations friendly and cooperative between China and Bhutan. The meeting was held on the China-Bhutan boundary issues.
Director-General of the Department of Boundary Ocean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Hong Liang, and Secretary of the International Boundaries of Bhutan, Letho Tobdhen Tangbi, chaired the meeting together.
12th Expert Group Meeting
In the 12th Expert Group Meeting, both sides had reached an agreement to openly, friendly, and positively discuss the further implementation of the Memorandums of Understanding on the Three-Step Road Map to facilitate the negotiation for the China-Bhutan Boundary.
In the joint statement to the press, both sides reached a consensus to accelerate the implementation of the Three-Step Road Map by working together simultaneously.

In the 13th Expert Group Meeting, one of the favorable outcomes was the formulation of the Joint Technical Team on the Delimitation of China-Bhutan Boundary.
The first meeting of the Joint Technical Team on the Delimitation of China-Bhutan Boundary was held on the sidelines of the 13th Expert Group Meeting.
Additionally, China and Bhutan agreed to keep the constructive momentum between the two sides in the frequent Expert Group Meetings.
Both sides also agreed to hold the 14th Expert Group Meeting on the China-Bhutan Boundary Issues immediately with utmost priority.
Furthermore, they also highlighted the upcoming 25th Round of the China-Bhutan Boundary Talk and urged them to maintain good communication for the organizing of the talks.
Both countries are hoping to keep the relations strong by arranging meetings on matters of mutual concern.
