Islamabad: July 10th, 2021 –(TDI): In a tweet today, Chairman of CPEC authority Asim Saleem Bajwa notified that the 10th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on CPEC will be held on Friday 16th July via video link. High officials from both Pakistan and China will participate.
The JCC lies at the center of the institutional framework of CPEC. It is the highest decision-making body of CPEC. The JCC has the authority to integrate new projects and track the progress of existing ones. JCC was established by China and Pakistan to examine the execution of CPEC.
The JCC is co-chaired from the Pakistani side by the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Reform (MPD&R) while on the Chinese side, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) co-chairs the committee.
The JCC committee is further divided into different working groups that generate suggestions for the main committee. There are nine JWGs of CPEC that deal with every important sphere of economic cooperation. JCC meetings are held to assess CPEC projects and set a strategy for the future. The first JCC meeting was held in Islamabad in 2013.
Although the JCC meeting is held every year due to the COVID situation the meeting was delayed last year but now it is scheduled to take place on Friday. Federal minister Asad Umar will co-chair the meeting from the Pakistani side with the Vice-chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission China Ning Jizhe from the Chinese side.
