Zhao Lijian on Afghanistan and COVID Origin-tracing

Beijing, 19 August 2021 (TDI): In a Press Conference on 18 August 2021, Zhao Lijian, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson talked about the Afghan issue and COVID19 origin tracing to the media.

Talking about Afghanistan Zhao mentioned that he hopes the political parties of Afghanistan would unite and resolve the differences with dialogue to keep the conflicts away because after a long war Afghan people are hopeful for peace in their country.

Based on a policy of friendly relations and cooperation, and to maintain regional peace and progress, “China upholds a friendly policy towards the entire Afghan people”, added Zhao.

On asking about the political framework of Afghanistan, Zhao Lijian told that China expects the Afghan Taliban to form “an open and inclusive political structure” through negotiations and maintain regional peace by suppressing terrorism in their territory. He also cleared that China will cooperate with the international community in restoring peace in Afghanistan. Talking in the context of the coming United Nations Human Rights (UNHR) council’s session, he ranked the human rights of Afghan people as a top priority.

Moreover, the FM spokesperson, while rejecting the politicization of origin tracing, advocated the idea of science-based origin tracing Investigation of COVID-19 and urged other states to invite World Health Organization (WHO) in their country for investigation too.
