YouTube Shorts Now Allows Videos Up to 3 Minutes

California (TDI): YouTube has released a major update for YouTube Shorts, its platform for short videos. The maximum duration of a Short video that producers can upload is now three minutes, up from the previous cap of sixty seconds, as of October 15.

This change is in line with TikTok’s 2021 decision to raise the maximum video duration to three minutes. YouTube decided to follow suit to give creators greater freedom to tell their tales and to reflect the growing popularity of longer short-form videos.

Shorts storytelling will become more immersive, according to Todd Sherman, director of product management for Shorts, who highlighted the benefits of this move.

Creators will be able to explore their subjects in greater detail and produce more captivating content thanks to the longer length.

YouTube is making several other improvements to Shorts in addition to the increased video length.

To make sure that producers’ material reaches the correct audience, the platform aims to improve suggestions for lengthier Shorts.

YouTube is rolling out a feature in the Home feed settings called “Show Fewer Shorts” for viewers who like to see fewer Shorts.

By doing this, consumers can lessen the frequency of short recommendations and personalize their viewing experience.

The Shorts player on YouTube is also undergoing updates to simplify its design and draw attention to the actual content.

Users may find popular material in their nation using the new Shorts trends page on their mobile device, and a tool to sample comments immediately in the Shorts feed is in ongoing development.

YouTube is launching templates to help producers even more by making it simple to produce Shorts based on well-liked sounds and trends.

To utilize this functionality, press “Remix” on a Short and choose “Use this template.”

YouTube Shorts users will soon be able to access YouTube content straight from the Shorts camera, which will make it simpler to remix segments from their favorite videos.

Additionally, YouTube is incorporating the Veo generative AI video model from Google DeepMind into Shorts.

This will boost the degree of creativity in Shorts by empowering producers to produce more unique video backdrops and independent pieces.

Over 2 billion users logged in to view YouTube Shorts every month, demonstrating the product’s growing popularity.

The platform’s popularity and the growing need for short-form video content are highlighted by this rise.
